I decided to install SuSE v6.4 on Igor and used YaST to change unused HD partitions to type 83 from vfat. The SuSE installation proceeded without incident. However when I rebooted the machine into Win95 I found that the
Two ideas. One, you mention you changed the vfat partition to type 83
No, actually type 82 is Linux Swap, type 83 is Native Linux.
I guess my week spent with Linux's and DOS's versions of FDISK last year is already fading from memory. :-)
(Linux swap, right?). (1) Unless you plan to over write the vfat partition (i.e. get rid of Windows), you should leave it set to vfat or vfat 32, IIRC, 12 or 12b. (2) While this probably doesn't effect your Windows problem, do you really want 83, or ext2 (which I believe is 82).
When I checked the partitions with fdisk I found that the last partition on that drive had been reset to a type 12 (whatever that may be). I deleted
12, IIRC, is Windows FAT16. You can see a listing through Linux FDISK, check the help command to find out how to see that table. I really think it may help to insure your Windows partition is indeed set to 12/FAT 16, if it isn't, it might confuse things.
the partition completely and un installed, then reinstalled, PowerDesk but I still have the same problem.
So far my request for help from the PowerDesk people has gone unanswered.
