Hi, I would like to install a Zebra EPL1/EPL2 label-printer on Opensuse (both 13.1 and 13.2). It seems those printers are not available. On sourceforge I found zebraCupsDrivers.zip, but this does not contain these printers (only zpl). OpenPrinting.org has only one Zebra-printer, but it's not the type I need. How can I install such a printer ? On Ubuntu-systems these printers are available, but I can't find where the ppd's of the printers are located. Any suggestions ? I downloaded the cups-source-rpm's but those do not contain ppd's AFAICT. Thanks, Koenraad. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Look at the windows drivers, they may contain the ppd's. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks, Unfortunately, I can't find any ppd there. I checked on a Windows machine where such a printer is installed. AFAIK, on Windows, ppd's are for Postscript-printers. The Zebra printer I want to install is not a Postscript printer. EPL1 and EPL2 are page-description languages of Eltron, now Zebra. But it was a good suggestion, in the past I got ppd's from Windows when Linux didn't have them. I wonder why also the Dymo label-printers are not there, although Ubuntu does have them. Anyone knows where Ubuntu keeps those ppd-files ? I searched for them, but I only find about 25 ppd's while you have a huge choice when installing a printer via the web-interface of cups. Have you tried using Google? Several hits/hints come up. I used "Zebra printer EPL1 PPD". I'll let you do the home work. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Hi Ken, I tried several times to google, but then I didn't include the word ppd. Now I did and on the second page there is a site where I can download a ppd-file for the printer. But that's a file for one printer type. On the same site there are files for the other type (epl1, epl2, cpl). So that's solved. But, on my way home I remembered I tried that printer on an OpenSuse 13.1 at home. And indeed, there I can install the printer via the web-interface. After selecting the manufacturer, I have a choice of 4 printer-types (cpl, epl1, epl2 and zpl). With the downloaded ppd, I don't have a choice. I also found a ppd on the home-PC, and that file is more recent than the file from Apples' opensource website. I find it strange that on one system that printer can be selected, and on another system with the same OS, that is not possible. Anyway, it works for now. Even if you find ppds, this won't be enought. PPD files only contains some arguments (page=A4...) , not code. I am wrong ? Dsant On 07/09/2015 02:36 PM, Koenraad Lelong wrote:

That's right, but that's what you need for postscript. Well, postscript is a language. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. I wish , I wish, I wish, that Linux had adopted/stuck with/whatever, the UNIX System V.4 printer model. In many ways it was more like Postfix, the way that the separate modules worked, very open and very able to install device specific drivers. Perhaps someone needs to re-implement something like that. Of course any change will upset many people. -- It must be remembered that there is nothing more difficult to plan, more doubtful of success, nor more dangerous to manage than a new system.
