[opensuse] kde4 - oxygen - how to turn off bright focus rectangle around edit window in kate/kwrite?
Guys, In kde 4.5.2, when kate has focus, there is a bright colored rectangle (focus indication) that draws itself around the editing window in kate/kwrite. This drives me batty as I have a dark background and dark decorations with this bright gold rectangle splashed in the middle of the editor. I've switched to Qt-Curve in the mean time (which looks pretty good). I've looked through the oxygen advanced style settings to try and find a way to turn this focus highlight off and I've looked through kate settings as well, but I still can't find a way to turn the editor window highlight off. (I DON'T want to change the highlight color in 'colors' as it works great for the theme, I just don't want the bright rectangle drawn around the editor window in kate/kwrite) Howto fix? -- David C. You mean the general focussed shadow/glow effect around the entire window? What is specific to Kate here? Do you mean the focus indicator around the editing _widget_? To disable that, run oxygen-settings (tweaker town) go to Widget Style, Views, uncheck 'Draw focus indicator', click Apply and restart Kate. That's the one will. The general window highlight is not the issue. It is the highlight around the edit widget. (sorry for my poor widgetology ;-) -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. Hey Will, Thanks -- but it doesn't work :( Here is a screenshot showing the editor widget highlight after I disabled the 'Draw focus indicator' AND restarted kate. (Kate has the focus - I use focus follows mouse so that is how I was able to show the focus with the oxygen-settings in front) http://www.3111skyline.com/dl/bugs/kde4/kde4-edit-wig-hghlt.jpg In this shot the unwanted highlight is the blue line around the edit widget. (was gold on other box) This is kde 4.5.2. What to try next?? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. disable "desktop effects" or disable the effect that produces the outline shadow. I am not on kde atm or I would describe better, but it is a setting *you* set :^). -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Davids not talking about Shadow effect here. Follow the thread. Its the blue lind around the Kate editing window, not the drop shadow. -- _____________________________________ At one time I had a Real Sig. Raise a bug upstream vs the Oxygen style. The above works for me here (with Focus Follows Mouse too, which I don't usually use). AARRGGHH!! What idiots are working on kde4? This is what is so damn frustrating about this whole desktop. I do my part, I file a bug report against a problem, and the damn developer has the audacity to ignore the problem and just tell me the highlight looks good!!! Go read the report for a laugh and a shake of the head at the same time. No wonder nothing ever gets fixed with this desktop!! -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. Isn't he saying that the bug is in Kate and that he thinks it will get
worked on?
Or let me ask another way - if the "Kate" issue gets resolved in the
way that the dev dude suggests it will, would your specific issue be
resolved also?

It would depend: Is that the proper place to apply a theme bug fix? Are there other places that David hasn't discovered that exhibit the same problem? -- _____________________________________ At one time I had a Real Sig.
