I'm new to irc. I'm using kvirc and can't connect to a lot of servers because there is no response to the identd response. Any clues on how to get that working? If a server requires identd then I would suggest finding another server. If you use identd it opens up port 113 so that the otherside can connect to it so it can make sure you are who you say you are. Are you on efnet? Which IRC network are you trying to use? Try to avoid using identd...very hackable. * Jim Sabatke (jsabatke@execpc.com) [020216 12:51]: ->I'm new to irc. Are you using SuSEFirewall2? In the SuSEFirewall2.rc file, it explains why the firewall dosn't drop packets to 113, instead it returns them, leaving the port closed. Apparently, this works for most email setups, because they get some kind of response back. So maybe that's worth a try. -- $|=1;while(1){print pack("h*",'75861647f302d4560275f6272797f3');sleep(1); for(1..16){for(8,32,8,7){print chr($_);}select(undef,undef,undef,.05);}}
Have the package pidentd installed, and set the variable START_IDENTD to "yes" in rc.config. I recommend, if you have a chance, finding and using a "fake" identd that just listens on a port and returns the information you tell it to, instead of looking on your system for it. -tara On Sat, Feb 16, 2002 at 02:52:13PM -0600, Jim Sabatke wrote:

Thanks,
I would suggest using a server such as concentric.net prison.net that do not require identd. This is a huge security risk and the only service that requires it is efnet IRC...otherwise it's just an open port ready for cracking. You can go to efnet.org and find a list of servers there. Find one that doesn't require this POS. :) * dids (richard@diddyland.com) [020217 12:34]: ->On Saturday 16 February 2002 8:52 pm, Jim Sabatke wrote: ->Funnily I found out how to do this for the first time, yesterday. ->Open port 113 on your firewall. -> ->dids -> ->> I'm new to irc.
