Uncontrollable font size
Hi all, I have just installed SuSE 8.2 and realized that every time I login kde, the font size is differ from previous login. Sometimes a single character is as big as the whole screen, sometimes is smaller than recognizable. But the same problem does not occur within gnome session. Any advice? Thanks

There seem to be a small number of people who have trouble with strange fonts in KDE, whilst the Gnome fonts are OK. I have seen someone on this list who suspected that KDE was affected by certain flaws of Gnome. I myself am under the impression that the cause could be found in the combination of antialiasing with certain video cards, possibly with a flaw in (certain versions of) XFree86. The fact that the problem only arises with certain video cards, would explain for the fact that only a few people have seen it. As an example, I have an ATI Radeon 9500, which was not listed in Sax2, so I chose the Radeon 8500 there. Everything looks OK, at least in 2D, but I would not be surprised if something does not work 100%. (Haven't been able to install the ATI driver either.) I did find a solution for the KDE font problem you mention though, namely, switching off antialiasing. I have described it here: http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-linux-e/2003-Oct/0229.html S.H.
