Sluggish and jerky mouse and unresponsive KDE/X in 9.0
Hi all. I have a question which probably has been in here a zillion times, but i cant seem to find anything about it. Setup: Clean 9.0 install on dual celeron 433 (smp) Intelimmouse Explorer (USB) Matrox G400 DH (Xinerama mode) "Focus strictly under mouse" is set Auto raise is set at 300 ms This setup worked lika e charm under 8.2 even with autoraise at 600!! My problem: The respons is VERY bad. The pointer is very jerky in its movements. The windows respond about a second after the pointer enters them. Draging of windows is extreemly sluggish. When i move one around the sound from xmms chops.. but cpu is down at 10% so its not a "overload" problem in that sence. any ideas? any hints? -- /Rikard ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rikard Johnels email : rikjoh@norweb.se Web : http://www.rikjoh.com Mob : +46 70 464 99 39 ------------------------ Public PGP fingerprint ---------------------------- < 15 28 DF 78 67 98 B2 16 1F D3 FD C5 59 D4 B6 78 46 1C EE 56 >

Perhaps DMA is turned off. I have been unable to turn DMA on (yet) on my new machine and it behaves in a similar way. As soon as there is some fairly intense disk access the UI gets sluggish. -- Steve Crane http://craniac.afraid.org

The disk is not that heavily accessed.. I DO have 512M ram, and swap isnt used at all... rikjoh@sparhawk:~> free total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 449440 445076 4364 0 39160 162968 -/+ buffers/cache: 242948 206492 Swap: 1052248 0 1052248 X is eating a few CPU cycles tho.. Alot more then on 8.2 Especially if i move a few windows around. or simply move the mouse. It pops to 80-90% cpu in notime.. Its so anoying i am actually thinking om "downgrading" to 8.2 again... /Rikard ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rikard Johnels email : rikjoh@norweb.se Web : http://www.rikjoh.com Mob : +46 70 464 99 39 ------------------------ Public PGP fingerprint ---------------------------- < 15 28 DF 78 67 98 B2 16 1F D3 FD C5 59 D4 B6 78 46 1C EE 56 >
