I've put true type fonts in my font directory, ran ttmkfdir and mkfontdir, edited /etc/XF86Config to include the truetype font directory and added Load "freetype" in the Modules section. When I try to start X, I get "Could not open fixed font" error. If I remove the true type font dir in the /etc/XF86Config file, X will start, but of course i have no TT fonts. What could be the source of the "could not open" message? I have checked file permissions on truetype fonts & subdirectory. all ok.
What you need to do if you are running 4.1.0 is to make the truetype directory..put the fonts in..and run SuSEconfig which takes care of ALL of it..and it should work fine. * Gold Bar (goldbar@telocity.com) [010907 13:20]: ->I've put true type fonts in my font directory, ran ttmkfdir and mkfontdir, ->edited /etc/XF86Config to include the truetype font directory ->and added Load "freetype" in the Modules section. -> ->When I try to start X, I get "Could not open fixed font" error. ->If I remove the true type font dir in the /etc/XF86Config file, X will start, ->but of course i have no TT fonts. -> ->What could be the source of the "could not open" message? -> ->I have checked file permissions on truetype fonts & subdirectory. all ok. -> ->-- ->To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com ->For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com ->Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq and the ->archives at http://lists.suse.com -> -- Ben Rosenberg mailto:ben@whack.org cat CE|ME|NT|XP > /dev/null
