I recently got a Cowon iAudio mp3/ogg player - a very nice little thing. However, using the supplied USB cable to transfer files (via Konqueror) causes it to lock the entire PC at the end of file transfer (when this happens varies, but it always does, whether I transfer 3 or 40 files), forcing a reboot of the host PC. The odd thing is that other G3 owners using Gentoo, Debian and Slackware don't have this problem. Would anyone have any suggestions on where to look to start teasing out this problem? I have a similar problem with my iAudio M3, it locks my machine at seemingly random times. I think it may be related to invalid file/directory names. I use kaudiocreator to rip my tunes and since it uses the cddb data to create file names, some of them inevitably end up being non-FAT-compliant. So when I transfer the files to the M3 I get an error message, hit skip, rename the culprits and copy them again. A few seconds later and it's locked up like a kipper (I know kippers aren't generally known for being locked up but this kipper has been a very bad boy). Anyway, i wasn't aware that it was a SuSE-specific problem. Do you know if the other distros use subfs for auto-mounting? Next time you mount the M3, unmount it before doing any transfers and try remounting it directly, i.e.: mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mount-point By the way, I know this isn't an audio-player list but do you know of some decent music management software, I like kaudiocreator but the whole renaming thing gives me the ache. Cheers, W

I suspect they don't use subfs ... I'm going to try all the suggestions made so far, and report back.

KAudioCreator is certainly better than GRip, but not without its issues (eg the one with SUSE 9.1 doesn't seem to write its tags properly (ie at all). EasyTag (http://easytag.sourceforge.net) is by far the best tag-manager I've come across (thanks to Philipp Thomas, who put a version on the SUSE disks), but (since it's GTK-based?) has a slightly non-intuitive interface. It will slice and dice your tags, but also does renaming. You caould also look at jTagger (http://jtagger.sourceforge.net). -- Pob hwyl / Best wishes Kevin Donnelly www.kyfieithu.co.uk - Meddalwedd Rhydd yn Gymraeg www.cymrux.org.uk - Linux Cymraeg ar un CD!

If you decide to give it a try, don't overlook the requirement for Java 1.5. To my knowledge, this is not availalbe via RPM install. You'll have to go to Sun's site and use their own installer.
