Hello, It has been impossible to install WP9 on SuSE since version 8.1. Problem of fonttastic? It is no great problem for me because I can use WP8-Linux to read my old .wpd files. The only problem is for the Quattropro files. I need them (damned proprietary format!). As I converted my files in .txt delimited tab I think I can still read them with OO spreadsheet (hopefully) but I am so used to Quatro (has been used for about 15 years). It is apparently possible to have a Corel Wine update for Debian but not for SuSE. Has anybody succeeded in having WP9 worked on SuSE-8.2. I can of course reinstall SuSE-7.3 but SuSE-8.2 is so much better (still problem though to configure graphic card, fortunately I kept the old XF86Config file to encode manually the parameters. Plus I am lacking YAST1 for some applications) and most devices are recognised automatically which is a surprise for a medium-old user of Linux. Wait and see for the HP5200 usb-scanner configuration. A late reply, but in the weekend I've got some more time... On Wed, 29 Oct 2003 Alain Barthélemy wrote:

Alas... installing WPO2000 on newer distro's is pretty much a lost cause (to cite someone on the WPO2000/Linux newsgroup). The reason is that due to the changes in GLibc-2.3.2, Wine had to be rewritten to a large extent for compatibility reasons. WPO2000 depends on CorelWine, which is a special version of Wine, but CorelWine is not worked on any more since WPO2000 for Linux is an abandoned project...

Today's harddiscs are big enough to easily install 7.3 _alongside_ of 8.2, I'm planning to install 7.1 alongside of 8.2. Only problem is to get my Ati Radeon 9500 to work with 7.1. Upgrading XFree86 and/or installing the Ati driver... phew, no newbie stuff. On the other hand, quite a number of people are running the Win version of WPO on Win4Lin, which appears to be working very well.

It should be possible to install WP9 on 8.1, I have seen people reporting doing so successfully. In an earlier post you wrote:
I saw a Web-page that talks apparently of an equivalent problem but it is in german and I can not translate. Somebody od SuSE can maybe tell me if there is a way to have WordPerfect work with SuSE-8.2.
Nach der Installation von WordPerfect2000 unter SuSE 8.1 Professional lassen sich die Anwendungen der Office-Suite nicht starten. < Big snip >
Yep, that's the german SuSE list. Note that this only applies to 8.1, and has nothing to do with the 8.2-and-above issue. I did a translation of that thread, maybe I'd better not bother this list with it... so I've hidden it here temporarily, it's a text file: http://www.shiems.freeler.nl/wpo2k-suse81

AbiWord can read them as well.

In the 'Open' dialog of OO in 'File type:' you should look for the spreadsheet section, and select 'Text CSV (*.csv; *.txt)' there. In the next dialog you can then specify the tab as the delimiter. BTW, any spreadsheet should be able to do this, I have seen something similar in gnumeric. Good luck, SH
