Laptop wireless lan in 8.1
I have just installed 8.1 (fresh install after unsatisfactory upgrade attempt) and everything seems to be working except the wireless lan. The card is a linksys wpc11 which I had working (after much difficulty) in 8.0. I had hoped SuSE might have improved the setup for pcmcia wireless cards, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Yast2 has a provision for pcmcia and now a provision for wireless, but the two selections don't seem to be compatible. I'm going to try to reconstruct what I did before from saved configuration files, but if someone has figured out any hints I would greatly appreciate hearing them. Thanks,
I just installed the wlan kernel module and rebooted -- (used the RPM) and poof -- off and running... Not sure what the "difficulty" is -- can you clarify a bit? I never tried it with "stock" anything, so maybe I am missing something, but it only took me 10 minutes, if that. ciao Kat On Sun, 2002-10-13 at 20:39, Bernie Gardner wrote:

Thanks,
I actually have gottent it to work in 8.1 now. I have to manually invoke dhcpcd to get it working, but I'll eventually sort that out (or just live with it.) Anyway, thanks for the reply. Bernie Gardner bernie.gardner@verizon.net
If only this was easy to setup .
I'm currently trying to do the same with my Netgear MA401 card.
But I'm having similar problems...
HP Pavilion sees the card and the light flashes on & off.
I've taken off my /var/log/messages for some one to work out
what I should do next to get the card to work.
I run iwconfig wlan0 and get lost in all of the configuration
Process to setup the card.
I wish someone could point me in the right direction of what todo.?
Here is a snipet of my /var/log/messages

Looks like you need to create / edit a config file for the interface. What do you see if you run ifconfig? I'm guessing you haven't set an IP address, or enabled DHCP - if you use a static address, try ifconfig wlan0 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx netmask xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx if you're using DHCP, try dhcpcd wlan0 and see what happens.
