What to use for vga=? for new Nvidia Card
First of all I which to thank the list members who helped me with my problem of a blank screen after I switch from a Nvidia MX400 to and FX5200. Changing vga=0x31a to vga=normal helped. Everything is installed and configured except now I would like to switch back to the graphical boot screen and console 1. I've currently using vga=0165. Is there some program or procedure for finding the correct video code. "lspci -n" gives "01:05.0 Class 0300: 10de:0322 (rev a1)". I tried using vga=0322 without success. start: Yast2->Hardware->Hardware information then under framebuffer select the resolution you want and use X from "mode : x " line as VGA=x (note no hex syntax here!) Jerry

There's a lot of information with the kernel documentation, in particular the svga.txt file. You might try vga=ask which will show you a list of option you can try, but first, use the 'scan' option of vga=ask and it will interrogate the bios to (hopefully) find the modes supported by the bios. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + Bruce S. Found in the HDB: vga=xxx Replace xxx with a value from the table below. This value specifies the resolution and color depth used by the X server later. Resolution in pixels Color depth | 640x480 800x600 1024x768 1280x1024 256 (8bit)| 769 771 773 775 32000 (15bit)| 784 787 790 793 65000 (16bit)| 785 788 791 794 16.7 Mill.(24bit)| 786 789 792 795

Although this problem has not been resolved, partly because I hate to keep rebooting. I want to thank Jorge, Sjoerd, Hans, and Bruce for taking an interest in solving my problem. I will live with the non-graphical screen using vga=0164 which I obtained by using "scan" when I booted with vga=ask. I only see console 1 during boot anyway. Terry Terry Eck wrote:
