[opensuse] Re: Sharing /home
Is there any ramifications with sharing /home with 2 different versions (11.4 and 12.1) ? Also, can I sharing the Thunderbird files ? There may be some issues with different desktop settings etc.
Also, can I sharing the Thunderbird files ?
Probably. I have done that in the past, using symlinks. Also, even if you don't share a directory for it, you can sync a lot of the info through Google contacts, IMAP servers etc. I run Thunderbird and Seamonkey on several different computers and even the Windows version on one. All are synced. I also sync Seamonkey and Firefox browsers with Mozilla Sync. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, there can be ramifications such as having different versions of some programs which may have changes to the configuration files. We once had problems with libreoffice when there were different versions installed and once with inkscape when the dot file format changed. The libreoffice was about the import of docx and nfs file locking. Once you know an app works, never upgrade it on either box and you should be OK. Don't do it. Sharing data files is usually OK, but config files are not. Even data files can be problematic if, say, you open a file with an older version of the program that created it.
Also, can I sharing the Thunderbird files ?
I would not. Perhaps you can symlink the mbox files. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R.
