Hi all, I have recently updated my video drivers to the NVidia Release including the GLX. On system boot-up, the XServer starts & KDE works without error. Then when I logout of KDE, the XServer restarts, I get the NVidia screen & then the window freezes. Once that happens the system video is frozen & no virtual consoles are available. The only way to get in to restart is through SSH. The XServer log shows no errors but stops at this point: (==) NVIDIA(0): Write-combining range (0xe6000000,0x1000000) (II) NVIDIA(0): AGP 2X successfully initialized The XServer is 4.0.2 NVidia Drivers : NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-2313.suse71.i386.rpm NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-2313.suse71.i386.rpm KDE Version 2.2.2 The XServer config file was generated from scratch using Sax2. If anyone can help, I thank you in advance. Well, if your using the newest version of the nVidia drivers I would suggest using XFree86 4.2.0. I've heard that in the past KDM and the nVidia driver like to bite at each others heels. I don't personally use it because it's just a system resource hog, but you may try the combo of XF 4.2.0 and the 2314 nVidia release and see if this fixes your issue. Others may have better knowledge then I do of a fix..but this is what I know. * Jasmine Davis (jasmine@photo-girl.com) [020212 18:49]: ->Hi all, -> ->I have recently updated my video drivers to the NVidia Release including the ->GLX. -> ->On system boot-up, the XServer starts & KDE works without error. Sorry, I made a mistake with the version of the XServer. The one that is installed is 4.2.0-2. I downloaded it 2 days ago & this is the one I am having the problem with. Also, the 2314 NVidia driver is not listed in the suse section on the nvidia website. Do I have to download the base one & compile it? I tried this once before & got a heap of errors. What kernel are you running? I have km's for 2.4.16 and .17 .. an they both work just fine. I can put either where you can get it. Just mail me off list. :) * Jasmine Davis (jasmine@photo-girl.com) [020212 19:21]: ->Sorry, I made a mistake with the version of the XServer. The one that is ->installed is 4.2.0-2. What Linux kernel version are you using? The nVidia site says the driver was made with 2.4.16 in mind; though before I upgraded to that I ran it OK on a 2.4.10 kernel.
I run the Suse release of 2.4-2-4 On Wed, 13 Feb 2002 14:28, you wrote:

This can be fixed by either switching off completely AGP and/or using the nv driver instead of the nvidia driver, or by following the instructions given by SuSE here: http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/blackconsole.html I did update the package pam_devperm, as recommended by SuSE, and it did fix this problem for me. Thank you everyone for your help with my problem. I did the "Black Console" fix from Suse & that seems to have done the trick. Thanks again, Jasmine On Wed, 13 Feb 2002 13:47, you wrote:
