Newbie and installing packages
Dear List Please could you offer advice on the following problem. I have just bought a PC and have decided to install SUSE 7.1 professional, kernel 2.2?? not 2.4. The installation went perfectly and I am trying to install the package x3270 series xap. The problem I have is how to achieve this in YAST. When I select LIST PACKAGES I can see the package, but when I search the source medium ( [X} in the source medium box, [X] in the system box and [X] in the case sensitive box) the search(pf5) returns no such package. As a result there is nothing for me to select to install. I have CD1 in the drive I press pf9 install medium that seems to read the CD. I know this is probably a very stupid question but I would appreciate it if somebody could spare the time to explain where I am going wrong. Thanks in advance Neil
In my experience I had the same problem where yast failed to read anything from the CDs. However, it worked perfectly after applying the yast update ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/sus/i386/update/7.1/a1/yast.rpm Hope that helps. Eddie On Monday 23 April 2001 12:19, Briggs, N. - Neil - wrote:

Try this:
Insert CD1 and mount it. cd to the location that it mounted to (usually
/cdrom) and do a "zcat 3270 ARCHIVES.gz" That should show you where it is
in the set, based on the directory info that comes up.
Good luck!

Yep, I believe Mr Howson is correct. Update the YaST package (I think the online update will do this, otherwise follow his link to the package). It's in the SuSE FAQ and they suggest updating YaST to fix the problem. On Monday 23 April 2001 06:19 am, Briggs, N. - Neil - wrote:
