Re: [SLE] ext2 upgrading to Reiserfs]
Hello! What I do when moving to ext2 to reiserfs -or another fs- is the following:
- First you need a partition or another disk to store the data temporally, let's suppouse that it is hda7:
mount /dev/hda7 /mnt find / -print |grep -v "^\/mnt" | cpio -pvum /mnt wait for a while....
-Now you have to change the /mnt/etc/fstab in order to set the new temporaly mount points -Once fstab is done you've got to do a boot disk:
dd if=the_image_you_use of=/dev/fd0 You have to tell it which is the new root rdev /dev/fd0 /dev/hda7
-Reboot with the floppy
- Then if your "/" was hda6 do:
mkreiserfs /dev/hda6
-Now guess what's going on now? ;-) you have to restore the data to the partition now in reiserfs mkdir /mnt mount -t reiserfs /dev/hda6 /mnt find / -print |grep -v "^\/mnt" | cpio -pvum /mnt That's my method, if enyone knows a better way let us know!
Good luck!

Hi all, Initially when I set up 7.2 I chose ext2. I see in Yast, that it appears I can change to Reiserfs on the fly, so to speak. Since I use my box for production, I wanted to double check before poking around doing this. Can I change this to Reiserfs, and maybe for good measure, re-run mk_initrd just to make sure (for root)?
