[opensuse] NVidia Dual Head
I'm running Opensuse 10.3 on an HP Compaq 8710w. It has a Quadro 1600M video card. If I go to yast2/Graphics Card and Monitor and try to setup up Dual Head/Clone Multi-head, all I get are blank screens on both monitors and I have to restart my laptop from ssh. I tried just a generic monitor 1024x768. Problem is both screens go blank. I need to give a presentation next week and I'll need to connect to a projector. Any suggestions? Are you using the nvidia binary driver? I *think* that is required for using more than one monitor. I would also recommend using the NVIDIA X server settings to set up the dual head display instead of YaST/sax2. You can find it under gecko -> System -> Configuration Again, I think you'll need the binary nvidia driver to have/use this. -- Don -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Don, I was looking for that earlier and couldn't find it. It's works now! Thanks! James -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Spoke a little too sonn. It is working, but all I can manage to to get is 640x480 on the external monitor. Any suggestions? Thanks, James -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

What happens when you try something higher? Just defaults to 640x480? Are there other resoultions offered in the nvidia settings config utility? FWIW, I've not been able to get different resolutions on the laptop and external screen (I'm not saying it can't be done, only that I've not gotten it to work). I generally will set my laptop resolution to match that of the external screen before activating the external screen. Hope this helps. -- Don -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Okay, I got it working with a different monitor. Clicking Detect Displays found an external 19" CTX monitor properly. Then I was able to to make it work at 1280x1024. I guess it just didn't like the old 15" monitor I was trying it with originally. It will be interesting to see how it works with the projector next week! I guess as long as it detects it ok I should be fine. Thanks, James -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
