Hello, I want to find out how big a specific directory is? I know that if I type df -h, it will give me a sizing for all the mounted filesystems, but now I need to know how big a directory is for say : /home or /usr??? Thanx in advance DB

Try the du command. Like so "du -ch /home" Without the quotes. This will tell you how much space that the /home dir is taking up. More options are available. Look at the man page for du. Does that help? -- Marshall "Nothing is impossible, we just do not have all the anwsers to make the impossible, possible."

# du -sh /usr 2.1G /usr If you don't issue as root, you may get a few errors, but it will still pretty much work. HTH Fergus -- Fergus Wilde Chetham's Library Long Millgate Manchester M3 1SB Tel: +44 161 834 7961 Fax: +44 161 839 5797 http://www.chethams.org.uk

For a GUI utility have a look at kdirstat, it intergrates with Konqueror. It provides a tree view of directories sorted by size. -- Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------------------------------
