Even though I have an old SummaGraphics serial port tablet, I had the same problem. The tablet did not respond. I do not know how USB works with addresses and devices and such. My problem was that YaST/SAX had set up the tablet to use /dev/ttyS0 (COM1). My tablet was on /dev/ttyS1 (COM2). So X listened for tablet input from the wrong device, and thus never heard all the signals that the tablet sent. I made my tablet work by editing my tablet's 'inputDevice' section in /etc/X11/XF86Config, and then logging out and logging in again. Perhaps you should check your /etc/X11/XF86Config to see if your tablet's 'InputDevice' section is fine. That X is listening to the right device for tablet input. This is my combination of mouse and tablet: Section "InputDevice" Driver "mouse" Identifier "Mouse[1]" Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" Option "Emulate3Buttons" "on" Option "Name" "Autodetection" Option "Protocol" "ps/2" Option "Vendor" "Sysp" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Driver "summa" Identifier "Mouse[3]" Option "AlwaysCore" "on" #Option "Cursor" originally was "Stylus" Option "Cursor" "Puck" #Option "Device" originally was "/dev/ttyS0" Option "Device" "/dev/ttyS1" Option "InputFashion" "Tablet" Option "Name" "SUMMASKETCH" Option "Vendor" "SUMMAGRAPHICS" EndSection What does your mouse and tablet combination look like? Good day p_s, well, as I said, I do not know anything about how USB works. THere is nothing in your information that makes me go "Ahaaaa!" Yes, I guess you could test the /dev/usb/* on a at a time. Knowing nothing about USB, I would try out the ttyUSB* first, then the mouse devices. One thing makes me wonder about your XF86Config: Your tablet is a USB device, yet SAX has set it up to use a device NOT in the USB-directory. Do you use KDE? If you do, your Control Centre may be able to tell you what device your tablet is connected to. Control Centre -> Information There is a section 'USB devices' Also, on my system 'apropos usb' gives me two interesting tools: lsusb ...and... usbmodules Perhaps you can use them to list USB devices. As far as I can see in the man pages, they should both be used as root. If your tablet on the USB bus is called something that in its name does not reveil that it is the tablet, perhaps you could unplug the tablet, make a liste of USB devices, plug the tablet back in, and make a new list of USB devices, and finally use diff to see if there is a difference between the "unplugged" list and the "plugged" list. A difference might be the tablet. Best regards :o) Johnny :o)

Could you provide your /etc/X11/XF368config here so I can take a look how it got done automatically, since I still can't get this working. And I have rebooted already from yesterday. P-s

I wrote a very detailed how-to on using this with SuSE 8.0 a couple of months ago - search the archives, or you can also see it on Togan's site (http://susefaq.sourceforge.net). SuSE 8.1 is marginally easier to install, but if I remember correctly it didn't write some of the XF86Config entries properly. Have a look at this and see if you get anywhere - if you still have problems I will try to dig out my 8.1 notes. The tablet itself works fine, but with the GIMP (the only thing I use it with), it has the unfortunate feature that if you unplug it and then reinsert it the GIMP can no longer see it, so you have to keep it in all the time. The only reliable way to get the GIMP to see it again is to reboot (!) - occasionally just restarting the Xserver will work, but not always. HTH Kevin

This was helpful doc, thanks.. Got so far that with xxd I can see that the box reads something from the tablet and I suppose I have everything right in XF86config. grep -i wacom /var/log/XFree86.0.log (II) LoadModule: "wacom" (II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/input/wacom_drv.o (II) Module wacom: vendor="The XFree86 Project" (II) Wacom driver level: 26 $ (II) LoadModule: "wacom" (II) Reloading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/input/wacom_drv.o (II) Wacom driver level: 26 $ (II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "Eraser" (type: Wacom Eraser) (II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "Stylus" (type: Wacom Stylus) (II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "Cursor" (type: Wacom Cursor) (==) Wacom Kernel Input device name: "Wacom Intuos2 6x8" (==) Wacom tablet maximum X=20320 maximum Y=15040 X resolution=0 Y resolution=0 suppress=14 (==) Wacom tablet top X=0 top Y=0 bottom X=18800 bottom Y=15040 (==) Wacom tablet top X=0 top Y=0 bottom X=18800 bottom Y=15040 (==) Wacom tablet top X=0 top Y=0 bottom X=18800 bottom Y=15040 This seems that everything should be ok.. But no movement, if I pick up my pen and move with it on tablet... I was just wondering that I shouldn't have any effect that I don't use KDE / GNOME, but fluxbox as windowmanager..... Anuy ideas how to go on ? P_S
