Ok well what about this.. Can I do fire walling with just one NIC card? All I was trying to accomplish was have one NIC for my internal network one for my external, can I just do that with one? Jeff
you can, but I would not recommend it. you would need to setup an alias on your nic, eth0:0 and your incoming network connection would have to terminate in a switch or hub, which will work, but.... a friend of mine did this with a cable modem. the cable modem doled out an ip address to his nic which was plugged into a switch with the cable modem. after he got the ip from dhcp, he would then bring up his virtual ethernet interface and firewall/masqing script. problem was, if anyone hooked up to his network with dhcp enabled, they would grab his external ip from his linux box, rendering the firewall useless. Shouldn't be a problem. Remember to set the variables in rc.config correctly. IE: $DEV_INT=eth0 $DEV_WORLD=eth1 and so on and so forth. THen ya can set protections for external, and internal connections. I'm not linux-firewal genius so ya may wanna get confirmation from one of the firewall gurus on the list. Sounds like you mean two NIC. One for the internal and one for the external. If so works fine. Nick
