How do you apply the patches in /mantel to the kernel 2.4.4 ? eg alsa
Ive got 2.4.4 downloaded and working for a couple of fixes to things that affect me. I see the patches in the mantel directory, how do i go about applying these correctly. Ive looked at the kernel-howto, and have the following info. zcat patch46.gz | patch -p0 does this apply to the .diff patches for alsa too ? ie zcat alsa***.diff | patch -p0 always learning more dids

The alsa patch would be applied to the alsa-driver sources. Don't try to apply them to the kernel sources but yes thats pretty much what you do. Don't forget the stuff there is risky. The vanilla alsa works greate for me with the vanilla 2.4.4 kernel. Mark

Just go to the alsa-driver source dir and patch -p1 < alsa-driver-0.5.10b-kernel-2.4.4-mge.diff: Mark

Nope, it doesn't. zcat is only needed for diffs compressed with gzip. For uncompressed diffs, just use 'patch -p0 < alsa***.diff' or 'patch -p0 -i alsa****.diff'. But you could spare yourself the work and directly download the kernel tarball from pub/people/mantel/next as it has the patches applied. Any reason for not doing so? -- Penguins to save the dinosaurs -- Handelsblatt on Linux for S/390
