I don't know if anybody else was, like me, expecting the 7.2 subscription to arrive automatically. Anyway it's not going to. I just spoke with SuSE UK and they've said that the automatice update has been cancelled, if you want it you have to order it each time. I suggested that they send out a reminder to people, 'cos I'm sure that when I took out my subscription for the 7.1 update that it said it was for 3 versions. Also they said that it will probably be around June 22nd before UK subscribers get their copies through the post. Just thought I'd post this to the list to avoid people being disappointed when it didn't arrive in the post. Jethroh

I am confused now......I rang SuSE UK just after I read this post. The story I have received is that old subscriptions will be fulfilled, but no new subscriptions will be taken out. The person "responsible" is currently away. I would appreciate the definitive answer, from SuSE, if anyone from SuSE can give it. My experiences with the subscription have been less than favourable :-( I originally took out the subscription with 7.0. The details were lost during the transfer of responsibility to the UK, and I took out another one starting with 7.1. I had hoped that everything would run smoothly after that! Apologies for the rant....but as I keep my system up to date, in reality I do not need to buy the latest every time. I do it to support the ongoing work of SuSE. I do not really need to have my resolve tested, by having to "chase" each new release. Why are the subscriptions being discontinued? Regards Brian

Oh boy, now I'm confused. I just hope that when the shipment arrives I get at least one copy arriving on my doorstep. It I receive more than one copy, oh well I can test out SuSE's return's department.

Me too. But I don't think you'll find them on the list. I am going to give them another call tomorrow and see what they say. BTW who did you speak to? I spoke to "Shelly". Jethro
I have sent an e-mail to SuSE asking about my subscription update. A reply has arrived saying that if I send them my address and payment details, they will make sure I get the update. So it looks as though we do have to order each update separately now. I don't mind, as in future, I can skip one if I want to, or even buy the full version and get a manual which is more up-to-date than my present 7.0. On Monday 11 June 2001, Jethro Cramp wrote:

I've rather lost touch with the update scheme. Should I understand that SuSE now offer the basic DVD/CD update (minus manuals) at a lower price? If so I may well be interested in 7.2- otherwise not, as I've only recently paid out for the boxed 7.1 Pro version. Terence

The SuSE version 7.1 update consisted of 2 floppies, 7 CDs and 1 DVD, plus a 255 page manual. The manual was about the Modifications, Information, and New features. The cost was £26. I assume that the 7.2 package will be similar. Hope this helps. Keith
