[opensuse] Requesting name resolution from local DNS server fails after the recent nscd patch
Hi, After the nscd/glibc update today I'm unable to use dnsmasq to cache DNS resolutions: everything (ping, browsing) other than dig immediately returns an error. Adding the nameserver to /etc/resolv.conf makes everything work again. Has anyone else seen this? what suse are we talking about? my /etc/resolv.conf is empty on 11.1 except for search and the domain (internal) as paremeter. host, nslookup and all the tools work fine. my old resolv.con from 11.0 was still having a nameserver entry glibc-locale-2.9-2.10.1 glibc-i18ndata-2.9-2.10.1 glibc-devel-2.9-2.10.1 glibc-info-2.9-2.10.1 glibc-2.9-2.10.1 libnscd-2.0.2-72.47 nscd-2.9-2.10.1 ------- a 11.0 system of mine looks: glibc-2.8-14.2 glibc-locale-2.8-14.2 glibc-i18ndata-2.8-14.2 libnscd-2.0.2-81.1 nscd-2.8-14.4 and /etc/resolv.conf works with both uncommented and present nameserver entries. no problems here. I forgot, it's opensuse 11.1.

The same versions are installed here, have you tried accessing a local DNS server like dnsmasq? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
additional info that i have discovered:
i am experiencing postfix delivery errors (using smarthost/relayhost
at external provider) for all my non-local emails. my postfix main.cf
and /etc/resolv.conf are all untouched since install of opensuse 11.1
as i said resolv.conf was emtpy except for search
as of yesterday nite, my postfix was delaying all external mails with
error message:
Feb 6 13:41:42 gateway postfix/error[13959]: BE02117C4DB:
to=

Just edit /etc/resolv.conf as explained by Christian, ie. add: nameserver 127.0.0.1 and post result. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes, I got bitten by this one,. you had an empty resolv.conf ..adding 127.0.0.1 as nameserver works fine. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I was bit by this as well, and have a question. Is netconfig suppose to update resolv.conf? It doesn't here, but NETCONFIG_DNS_FORWARDER='bind', which was done by Yast DNS module. I tried to set it to resolver but it still didn't touch resolv.conf. According to resolv.conf, if I manually edit the file, it will disable netconfig. What is the recommended way to update resolv.conf? I have to admit these new NETCONFIG variables are confusing to me. -- Joe Morris Registered Linux user 231871 running openSUSE 11.1 x86_64 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
