I have SuSE 9.1 with an ATI 9700 Pro. Both 2D and 3D work fine. However, I have two problematic behaviors. First, I cannot use 1280x1024 (my flat panel's native resolution). All other resolutions up to 1600x1200 work fine, including 1280x960. When setting the resolution to 1280x1024, it bumps down to 640x480. This is also a problem since the games I like to play cannot seem to change the resolution they work in. Thus, if I have X running at 1280x960 (a resolution not supported in most of the games) and I set the game video setting to 1280x1024 or 1600x1200, it makes the game screen extend off the visible screen. If I set it lower, like to 1024x768, it fills up only part of the visible screen. So, my two questions are: 1. Any idea why 1280x1024 doesn't work but the rest do; 2. Is there any way for games to actually change the resolution of X to match the game resolution. FYI: Some games like Unreal and Half-Life use WineX, while games like Quake3 and Return to Castle Wolfenstein have linux binaries. Both types of games exhibit the same problems.

Unreal has a linux binary. Use it when you play online, so the developers know there's one more linux user out there No idea about your problem though, it sounds odd

The answer is probably in /var/log/XFree86*.log I guess the modeline for that resolution is wrong. Cheers, Leen
