I installed the new synaptic and apt. When I start synaptic, I get the error... "Could not open file /etc/apt/preferences - open (2 No such file or directory)" I click the OK button and the program shuts down. Any thoughts? Tom

Weird. I've just installed the synaptic-0.24 pkg from the site below and it worked just fine. It worked fine. How about just doing this... touch /etc/apt/preferences After you do this and it starts up ..you may want to go through the preferences menu and choose what you wish. If it's looking for that file it should find it and write the correct information to it. BTW..I have no preferences file in /etc/apt. And it works. http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/apt-0.5.4/ -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org Tell me what you believe.. I tell you what you should see.

With the new Synaptic, after installing a package I get a ton of repeated gtk errors in the console window (below), and Synaptic crashes. Gtk-CRITICAL **: file gtkprogress.c: line 518 (gtk_progress_set_percentage): assertion `percentage >= 0 && percentage <= 1.0' failed. So, I've gone back to the .21 version of Synaptic. -- _________________________________________________________ Another Message From... L.
