Dear all, I am SOHO man. I wanna build up one ASP Server (running SuSE64, Tomcat, PostgreSQL, ...) to serve my client. If I use following hardware to setup that server, is possible to serve around 50 cocurrent users. Please advice. Hi, This configuration is more then adequate... ...the thing in your favour is the O/S... ...L...I...N...U...X... :) We currently serve about 50 concurrent users with a machine of half that spec on Linux... ....while we are lucky if we serve 10 concurrent users with a machine of double that spec on IIS NT Server. And they say M$ is the best solution... ...:) I wonder if they are on the same planet that I am!!! :P Q On Wed 26 Sep 01 15:52, Andy Chan wrote:

Good god, man! To say that your system is adequate would be a vast understatement. You should see the specs of popular webservers you access day-to-day. Most are way less than your setup. -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com
hi andy, this should be more than enough ;-) but i would suggest to use 3 hd's and to make a raid-5 setup, for data safety !! we have our server on a pIII/866 and we are serving >100 domains without any prolems (sysload ~ 20%, peak about 70%) greets, chris Am Mittwoch, 26. Hi As other has stated already, it sure is enough. I had some time ago 100Mhz 486, 22Mb RAM runnin SuSE 6.2. I had ftp and http server running and serving "outside", and in LAN side it had samba HD-shares for every user (10 users), printing service (2 printers), and it had also firewall/masquerading for LAN access to Internet with SDSL (1M/1M). If an old piece of 486 can do this, You don't have to worry... Jaska. Viestissä Keskiviikko 26. Syyskuuta 2001 16:52, Andy Chan kirjoitti:

I am doing a simlar thing, but with Firebird (Interbase) instead of PostgreSQL, on a simlar spec machine serving upto 100 concurrent clients with no real problems, other than those of my own making. If you have and money left over, JSP/Servlet/Java stuff will enjoy as much memory you can give it, and Database servers will enjoy a nice fast SCSI disk. Cheers Phil -- Linux 2.4.4-4GB 2:56pm up 13:10, 1 user, load average: 0.33, 0.17, 0.06

Should handle 50 users quite nicely - make SURE you stick a 100MB Full Duplex Network Card in it tho... And if you get the DDS3 drive to work at anything over 4GB (they are a 12GB uncompressed, 24GB compressed drive on DDS3 tapes), please let me know how !!!
