[opensuse] no intel graphic driver
so it is said that intel graphic driver is installed by default when we have intel graphic card. unlike ATi or NVIDIA which has its own driver. but the perfomance of intel driver is bad. i tried it on 2 different notebooks and both could not run google earth. with ATi or NVDIA, it runs so smooth. any bright idea for me to run google earth on intel 945 GM chip without problem? i m using opensuse -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I have a "Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller" on my Toshiba P105-S6207 and performance is quite good. I run GNOME wih "3D" effects enabled. I can watch video, etc... without any issues. I've never noticed a graphics performance issue (with 11.1 anyway, for awhile there was a bug in 11.0). openSUSE 11.1, xorg-x11-driver-video-7.4-19.8.2.i586 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

IIRC, not all graphic cards are supported by Google Earth. It requires 3D hardware acceleration. Does the Intel card have 3d hardware acceleration? Many people are experiencing problems with the Intel 945 chipset on all distros with Google Earth. Open GL must be on. One more thing I forgot to add: Open konsole and type in su Next: type cat /proc/cpuinfo at the command line. In the "flags" section you'll see things like "fpu mmx". Look for an "sse2" - if your processor has it, it'll be in that list of processors that are supported in Google Earth. What is SSE2? *Streaming SIMD Extensions 2*, is one of the IA-32 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IA-32 SIMD http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIMD (Single Instruction, Multiple Data) instruction sets http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instruction_set http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSE2#CPUs_supporting_SSE2 Hope this helps. Such an assertion because *ONE* app does not work well is just silly [or worse]. Every other app, and an entire desktop environment, work very well. The correct conclusion is that there is a problem with Google Maps. Intel graphics on openSUSE works very well. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
