[SLE] How to associate file extencion with certain application in kfm.?
Hello linux folks! I'm using KDE as my primary desktop environment. Some files in kfm window are already linked to certain applications. When you point and click on a file it invokes a corresponding application, viewer or editor according to the file's extension. Does somebody know how to associate file type and its extension with corresponding application which must be invoked when you point and click on the file in kfm window or on KDE desktop? I need to associate .doc files with StarOffice5.1 and .gif, .jpg with Gphoto applications. Thanks in advance for any help. That is done through kfm. Select Edit->Mime Types, then look for your particular file type and then click the right mouse button on the icon and select Properties, click on Binding tab, select the application to run with the Default Application option. If the application doesn't exist you have to create it. You use kfm as well. In kfm select Edit->Applications. That'll bring up a folder with a number of icons, right click on the folder background and select New->Application. That'll bring up a panel where you fill up the necessary information. It's important that you add the mime type you want in the Application tab. See the properties of other applications to get an idea on how they are configured. Once you have your application created go back to the mime types and set the Default Application setting. If your mime type does not exist, create it. Use other mime types as templates. Good luck. -- Rafael Herrera -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

From the KDE mailing list, on the subject of changing ghostview to acrobat for *.pdf files:
--- To stop kghostview from coming up when you click on *.pdf: 1) go to $KDEDIR/share/applnk/Graphics/kghostview.kdelnk 2) Right click on kghostview.kdelnk and select Properties. 3) click on the Application tab 4) in the left list at the bottom there should be an entry "application/pdf", 5) Select that and click on the "-->" to remove it from the left list to the right list. To add a *.kdelnk for Acrobat: 1) Left click on Templates icon 2) Drag a Program.kdelnk into $KDEDIR/share/applnk/Graphics/ 3) When you drop select "copy" 4) Go to $KDEDIR/share/applnk/Graphics/Program.kdelnk, right click and select Properties. 5) fill in the info on all tabs (Examine others like kghostview.kdelnk for examples.) 6) Do the reverse of what was done in the kghostview Application tab: select "application/pdf" and click on the "<--" to move it to the left list. --- -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
Hi, Having finally got round to purchasing and updating (< hour) my 6.1 system to 6.3, I noticed my software suppliers catalogue that came with the purchase, a SuSE advert for version 6.4 and all the new and improved features/packages. I thought 6.4 was a few months off?
