hi, i've yesterday installed my openSUSE as Druid said (first minimal-installation from cd1 and then add the loop-back-mounted isos as YaST-Source. [it needed the packages "syslinux", which i aborted, because it's on CD2, and i hadn't burned CD2... maybe it would be better if all the packages needed for minimal installation are located on CD1] But it worked and i've installed it. Now to the error, i got while partitoning: The suggestion from YaST was to format hda1, on which my SuSE 9.3 system is. I tried to change that: Installations-Settings -> change -> custom -> [i had to choose the HD] -> i could choose the Partiton, on which i want openSUSE to install, 1 - /dev/hda1 2 ... ... I've ticked the box at hda8, but i got an error-Message "die aktuelle Auswahl ist ungültig, start your selection with the highest numbered list entry". In english that would mean: "the actual selection is inoperative, start ..." Is that a bug, or only a handling error? I didn't find it in the bugzilla... Later i've tried to do the partitioning "by hand", so i said, where the / should be mountet (the YaST - Partitioning tool, i know from running systems...). Hope, that's understandable through my bad english... greets Soeren

I think 'ungültig' means 'invalid', not 'inoperative'

As the help text says, you have to select the highest numbered entry in the list. You can't select entries 'in the middle'. While this isn't very flexible, it is documented in the help text, so I don't think it can be called a bug. Undesired perhaps, and lacking, but not a bug If you want to install in partitions 'in the middle', it seems you have to do the advanced partitioning manually

OK. I've searched it at leo, and it says both of them...

i think, this selection then is useless.. if you don't want the first HD listed being formated, you can only do another partitioning method..

Yes.. i did so, but as end-user, i would expect in an selection like this, that i can _choose_ the partition i want to install the system... greets Soeren

By the way, if you really got an error message half in German and half in English, this would be a bug
