I dunno if my memory got the best of me but last I remember 7.1 was released in the USA on Feburary 25 after slight delays. The ftp was up around 4-5 weeks later. Feb 25->Mar->Apr->May->Jun 15 4 months but I could be wrong....Maybe somebody who bought it wants to check their credit card statements for what day they got charged. ah here it says on website: http://www.suse.com/us/suse/news/PressReleases/marketshare.html mk

To: SLE Subject: Re: [SLE] New suse 7.2 Date: Tue, 12 Jun 2001 08:36:11 -0700 Well, I don't mean to offend anyone .. at all, but I will say this ONE more TIME.
A. 7.1 was released in January 2001
B. 7.2 is being released June 2001
C. Look at a calander..count it on your fingers..I don't care. It's 6 months.
D. So from A to C we get a release schedule of '6 months'...
People are correct in say that one does not have to upgrade if they don't want to...it's the choice of the consumer.
My opinion is as I have stated before is that $140USD a year (max) for SuSE is way better then $400+ within 18 months for W2K then WinXP...and you get more and yes there are issues with somethings..but SuSE damn quick at fixing 90% of them.
If you don't want to upgrade .. don't. But don't go buy it sometime in October or November then whine that you just bought it and 7.3 is going to come out next January (yes, the Germans get not to release a product right before Christmas in the States)..I don't want to hear it..
Be forewarned that SuSE will release another distribution in about 6 months..it's WHAT THEY DO. :)
Kind Regards,
->I hear your pain but I disagree. A distro every 4 months is fine with me. It ->allows a user to skip a release once in a while. And probably the biggest ->reason why this 7.2 was hurried out is the update directories.

Regards,
I would say that ben has made his point folks. I would have to aggree also that of late there has only been 2 releases of suse a year last year an now with 7.2 that will make the second one for this year. Two releases a year is not a bad release schedule to me. an considering all of what you get its a very good bargain. also like its been said you are not bound to upgrade to the lastest an greatest an also if you have a fat pipeline into your house/buisness then you can just download the updated stuff, but some of us like to support our favorite distro company an how else is the fine folks at suse going to keep putting out such a nice distro unless they make some money. just my .03 cents worth to the subject. also some of us like the nice books too boot an if we buy the full boxed set then we have a nice box set to pass on to someone else that maybe wants to take a look into linux an still a have the books from the new box to refer to. jack
I want it, but anyone seen it for sale yet as a pre-order? Now me got DVD me can have fun installing off of one disc, yee ha :-). And the books, is that a new one on Networking I saw? Something to do with Samba included? Matt -- "The only thing complex about Linux are the users themselves." <big snip>
