Taper is ok, but I prefer Arkeia. Arkeia has a GUI, command line , is fast, reliable & free for non-commercial use. Unfortunately I've never been able to install a working system from a SuSE cd, (section PAY) always end up downloading from www.knoxsoftware.com. SuSE seems to get the GUI and the server versions out of step : (
Your experience is the same as mine . . . KDAT did NOT work reliably, for me.
"TAPER" by Yusuf Nagree {
} is downloadable from www.Linuxberg.de works a charm, and is reliable. Thanks, I took a look at taper (already have it, one of the benefits of using the best distro on the market) and that just may be what I'm looking for.

At the time that I looked into ARKEIA it was not possible to use it with a non-SCSI Parport drive { I have a 2GB Ditto External tape drive} best ____________ sent on Linux ___________ ______________________________________________________________________________ Si votre email etait sur iFrance vous pourriez ecouter ce message au tel ! http://www.ifrance.com : ne laissez plus vos emails loin de vous ... gratuit sur iFrance : emails (20 MO, POP, FAX), Agenda, Site perso -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

I've been trying to get amanda going and it's been a pain in the ass. Also, IIRC, you can't have several archives on one tape with amanda. Do you know if that's so? Right now the 2 that I'm looking at are taper and amanda, and I'm going to d/l personal Arkeia one of these days. I don't belive that you can have multiple archives on one tape.. You can however combine all your boxes backups into one huge indexed archive.. This is not a problem for me as my backups normally spaned tapes anyway. Cya Matthew Matthew King: Network Engineer, Cable & Wireless Optus. My ICQ#: 2342475 Message me!
