I am kind of a Suse newbie. I was able to configure a winmodem on Redhat some time ago though (It was a PcTel). I am having trouble getting my Lucent Winmodem working in suse 9.0 Pro. How do I configure the modem? Suse recognizes it but, I cannot use it. I loaded the driver from the CD's as well as KPPP. What next. Thanks for any assistance, and I apologize that I have nothing more "Meaty" to say yet. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Small Business $15K Web Design Giveaway - Enter today

I went through the same headache 2 weeks ago. In my Sony VAIO I have a Lucent Winmodem, and like your installation, SuSE 9.0 recognised it and installed a driver. But it didn't work. In fact it hung the system every time after dialling. I had no idea why or what I could do - I logged a support request with SuSE but the response was that winmodems were not covered under the free installation support and that I should look at websites or user groups to download and install drivers. It all looked a bit complex - I'm not familiar with installing Linux packages and it looks a nightmare to try and recognise which driver you need. I really think it's a poor show that many people converting from Windows will fall at the first hurdle and give up because there is no help for them from SuSE and they're left on their own. I now gather that Sony Lucent winmodems are different again from normal winmodems and probably won't work with Linux. I've now given up and am using my old external serial modem! -- Chris Simon osian@zetnet.co.uk http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/csimon/
