Anyone playing America's Army game?
I just downloaded it and installed it. When I try to run it I get: Tom@linux:~/armyops> ./armyops Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0". Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0". Xlib: extension "XiG-SUNDRY-NONSTANDARD" missing on display ":0.0". GL_EXT_bgra not supported - bailing out. History: Exiting due to error Tom@linux:~/armyops> Any have an idea what this means? Tom

Sounds like 3D support is not correctly setup. It would be just a guess by looking at those messages. What does the output of 3Ddiag say?? Marshall

Wow, great tip! Here's the output. I guess I have a problem with extensions....what ever they are. I'm running a Matrox G550 on my system, shouldn't it be 3D already? I looked at the XF86Config file and noticed no dri in the Modules section. Do I just put it in what it says below, "Load 'dri'"? I notice in my DRI section of XF86Config, I have 2 lines: Group "video" and Mode 0660. Should I have anything else there? linux:/home/Tom # 3Ddiag 3Ddiag version 0.703 Verifying 3D configuration: Using 3dinfo ************************************************************ Verifying 3D configuration based on XFree86 4 for 3D board "Matrox Graphics, Inc. Tom, I think the easiest & best way for you to do the 3d setup is to drop down to init 3 and run sax2 for your graphics card. Under sax2, you can initiate 3D and make sure all your other settings are optimized as well for your setup. You could edit your XF86Config file, but you take the chance of rendering your graphics unusable and having to run sax2 anyway. Plus, in running sax2 normally, you take care of any files in the /etc/sysconfig directory that need to be optimized for graphics, keyboard, mouse, etc. automatically. IIRC, that's S3TC, which is not supported in open source drivers due to patent restrictions. - -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE/5vSr+FOexA3koIgRAhozAJ97dywllEQRe0ZQcfgL0Tkcwm1k5gCgj/g1 VJwQynISQ5za77hdrH5u5R0= =W4X0 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

So....that means I can go ahead and delete the game. Right? Tom -- Tom Nielsen Neuro Logic Systems 805.389.5435 x18 www.neuro-logic.com

Yes, unless you want to buy a commercial X server or hammer on Matrox and/or icculus.org to deal with it. I downloaded a Matrox Linux driver from there website. Is this not what I need? http://www.matrox.com/mga/support/drivers/files/lnx_30.cfm -- Tom Nielsen Neuro Logic Systems 805.389.5435 x18 www.neuro-logic.com

That driver doesn't have the S3TC extension. You can get an X server that does from XiG: http://www.xig.com/ It's supposedly much faster than XFree86 on Matrox cards. - -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE/5zat+FOexA3koIgRAqK9AJ4+hH+NFAxJESor+l5ZOvSsR/3ahACeN5/T Hgcdtyvac0wESmH0SLOvsFY= =5GDJ -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Or ... do as I do, and I do have AAO installed on my Linux. Get an NVidia card, they're cheap these days. Or, Radeon ... which I think have almost as good support as NVidia does, check it out though... before you buy the card :)
