Hello, does anyone know how to make firefox start up in on-line mode? I've run out of ideas and I'm running firefox-1.5.0.4 Geoff -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

If you have a specific default home page selected (contrary to a blank URL) then it will automatically go to that home page when FF is started. (In fact, I think that as soon as you start it it goes into online mode except that it goes nowhere unless you have a specific home page selected - eg your ISP's home page - for it to actually go to.) Cheers. -- Ignorance can be corrected. Thanks, I've just tried that, but even using a page on the web, instead of blank, it always asks me to uncheck the work offline offline flag before it will continue. Am I the only one with this nuisance? This never used to happen before for me. Well, this wont bring you any joy, but I can tell you we have 4 ( Suse inside ) boxes here updated via YOU to Firefox 1.5.0.4 and none of them shows that behaviour. Or, perhaps it is clearer to say, they all behave as they have done since Firefox got to be the choice many of us settled on some ( frmp frmp) years ago. One thing you might look at, do you have any updates or extensions.. sometimes it seems to take an amazingly long time to tell you it hasn't found any new updates. Oh sorry, if it were doing that sort of checking it would be in online mode when you start Firefox up. ( maybe you can set it somewhere I really don't recall ) -- j -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Are you maybe not using NetworkManager, but the 'traditional' networking mode? If so, it may be a bug that Firefox incorrectly depends on the D-BUS status of NetworkManager, even when it's not in use. -- James Ogley james@usr-local-bin.org http://usr-local-bin.org Packages for SUSE: http://usr-local-bin.org/rpms Help end poverty: http://oxfam.org.uk/imin -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Well you might be right there. I chose to use NetworkManager during the install, and subsequently installed my speedtouch usb modem using Network_Devices-->DSL in YAST. I still have to connect manually using ifup dsl0 even though I chose Hotplug for startup. Whilst online, and clicking the NetworkManager icon it shows "no network devices found". All this is under SuSE10.1 oss and I must admit I don't know how the networkmanager is supposed to work. The only config option seems to be for dial-up modems.
