mozilla 1.5 spellchecker dependency
Hi everyone, I have a problem: Upgrading "mozilla-spellchecker-1.5-0.i586.rpm" error: failed dependencies: myspell-dictionary is needed by mozilla-spellchecker-1.5-0 when trying to install mozilla-spellchecker 1.5. Where do I find this package for SuSE 8.1? I have OpenOffice 1.0.1 already installed (there is a connection between the spell-checker and OpenOffice) The packages were downloaded from ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/mozilla. thanks in advance! -- Alin DOBRE Technical Support Engineer - RAV Division mailto:alin.dobre@ravantivirus.com Tel./Fax: +40-21-321.78.03 Hotline: +40-21-321.78.59; http://www.ravantivirus.com Worry less! This problem is on SuSE 8.2 too. I don't think the package exists now. We have to wait for SuSE to fix it. -- A.M.
Hi, I have discovered (think so ;-) ) the source of the problem. myspell-dictionary should: - be in the OpenOffice.org.rpm's "provides" list (OOo v1.0.1 default on SuSE 8.1) - not be in the list of mozilla-spellchecker.rpm's "requires" list, as in the previous versions did not exist, so why should it now? A temporary solution (until SuSE fixes this) would be to force the rpm installation (rpm -Uvh --nodeps) without dependency check when installing mozilla-spellchecker rpm. Another problem would be with the packages of Samba3 (this time this works for SuSE 8.2) downloaded from: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/gd/8.1-i386/samba3-3.0.0/ that require "libattr.so.1(ATTR_1.0)", as opposite to the previous versions of Samba that require only "libattr.so.1" to be installed. In SuSE 8.2, libattr.so.1(ATTR_1.0) is provided by libattr-2.4.0-14.i386.rpm, so, becuase of the gcc/glib differences, I downloaded the .src.rpm from the 8.2 distribution default set of rpms, reecompiled it, and I got 3 rpms: libattr-2.4.0-14.i386.rpm, libattr-devel-2.4.0-14.i386.rpm, attr-2.4.0-14.i386.rpm, as opposite of the 8.1 rpm that had only 1 rpm called attr. Now, I cannot install either of the 2.4.0 rpms (the ones from the 8.2 set) because it breaks many dependencies due to the fact that between 8.1 and 8.2 SuSE broke the attr package into 3 different packages. sorry, the dependency is only valid since 9.0. It shouldn't be in the packages for older versions. Since 9.0 every myspell-$LANGUAGE package provides "myspell-dictionary", which means you need at least one myspell dictionary. Spellchecker can't work otherwise.

This is true for versions older than 9.0. Just ignore the dependencies (--nodeps) for now. CU, Wolfgang Rosenauer -- SUSE LINUX AG -o) Tel: +49-(0)911-740 53 0 Deutschherrnstr. 15-19 /\\ Fax: +49-(0)911-740 53 489 90429 Nuernberg, Germany _\_v simply change to www.suse.com
Hi Wolfgang, First of all, thank you for the answer. Wolfgang Rosenauer wrote:

I saw that. Anyway, so this is not a real problem anymore :-P I can live without Mozilla SpellChecker :-P

And everytime I run YaST, it shows the unresolved dependecies for mozilla-spellchecker. I guess there is a workaround for this, too, but as I said, I have chosen to stay without Mozilla SpellChecker.

Hmmm, I didn't have this problem when installing the SuSE Mozilla rpms for 1.5 recently. I got the Mozilla 1.5 rpms from this site: ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/projects/mozilla YMMV Lee -- --- KMail v1.5.4 --- SuSE Linux Pro v8.2 --- Registered Linux User #225206 On any other day, that might seem strange...

IMHO you have the same problem, you just don't know about it since the --nodeps option was used automatically in your case. If you reset package dependencies in YaST2 / Install and Remove Software / Extras / Reset Ignored Dependency Conflicts then you will see that myspell-dictionary is missing and that mozilla-spellchecker depends on it. -- A.M.

Isn't there a way to go and fetch/download thew necessary dependencies whilst installing the package? -- ======================================================================== Hylton Conacher - Licenced Windows user Registered Linux user # 229959 Using Linux Mandrake 9.0 with KDE 3 on a 2.4.19-16mdk kernel ========================================================================
