Kernel rpm from later versions OK for 6.4?
I would like to use the 2.2.18 kernel on my 6.4 system, but the latest RPM available in the 6.4 updates directory is 2.2.16. I know it often ill-advised to use RPMs from later releases, but would the 2.2.18 RPM from the 7.0 update directory cause me any problem. Some might say to just download the kernel source and build it, but I'm lazy..... Jim

Downloading source and compiling isn't hard and can be very quick, but... if you insist on RPMs, then it shouldn't be a problem for something like the kernel. The only caveat is that you get the modules RPM (if the modules aren't included in the kernel RPM, which they may not be).
