[S.u.S.E. Linux] IP Networking Question
Hello all, I would appreciate any help that you will be willing to give me on this one. I have probably emailed you about this before, but here is a picture that will probably explain my situation. -------- | | | ADSL | IP: X.X.X.X (connected to Internet) | | -------- | | --------------- | | | Win98/Linux | | Machine | | | IP: 192.168.0.1 --------------- ----------- | ----------- | | -------- | | | Win98 |_______| HUB |----------| Win95 | | | -------- | | | | | | ------------ ----------- 192.168.0.2 192.168.0.3 The Win98/Linux machine had a dual boot feature, so I can boot either in Win98 or Linux. When I am in Win98, I am running Sygate to translate Internet traffic bidirectionally. There is not need for proxy settings, and the client machines don't need any changes, whatsoever. Right now, the client machines are using the Internel IP as their DNS, Gateway, Mail Server, etc.... It is done that way because data is naturally translated. Now, can I replicate the above in Linux without changing the client machines. Isn't there some type of NAT software that can do this type of network translation? What software could I use to make this possible? I would appreciate any help and thanks ahead of time. Paul, That's what IP Masquerading is for. Since with ADSL, you will get a static IP address, you can set up IP Masquerading very easily. No, you don't have to make any changes on the client machines. I am assuming that the clients are now configured to use the W98/Linux box as the gateway. Regards, Kenneth Tan ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ C. J.
