huh? Trying to update evolution ....
Since I have been having issues with the version of evo that ships with SUSE10, I added the official gnome yast source (ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/GNOME/update_for_10.0/yast-source/) And then tried to updated evolution and components. However, I was told: gtkhtml2 not available: evolution requires gtkhtml2 >= 3.10.0- Yast showed gtkhtml2 (and older ver) installed, and a much newer ver (3.9.92-6) available. HUH? Trying to add evo from a source that does not have a dependency for the version it offers me? What gives? I went ahead and added (3.9.92-6) but ... still no go. And, I am confused that the dependency message is that "gtkhtml2 not available" -- well, yes, it is .... just too low a version, I guess. Now, what? Peter

Hi Peter, I clearly explained in my previous post to you that the supplementary packages are *not* "official" or supported. Did you read the README.txt file (or equivalent) in the root supplementary packages directory? Carl
addendum: pin 0.34 - package info for gtkhtml2 ------------------------------------------------------------------ *** rpm info ------------------------------------------------------------------ Name : gtkhtml2 Relocations: (not relocatable) Version : 3.8.0 Vendor: SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Nuernberg, Germany Release : 3 Build Date: Tue Sep 13 00:18:59 2005 Install date: Sun Mar 12 21:40:53 2006 Build Host: purcell.suse.de Group : Development/Libraries/GNOME Source RPM: gtkhtml2-3.8.0-3.src.rpm Size : 2590146 License: GPL, LGPL Signature : DSA/SHA1, Tue Sep 13 00:29:14 2005, Key ID a84edae89c800aca Packager : http://www.suse.de/feedback URL : http://www.gnome.org Summary : Library for HTML Support for Gtk2 This tells me that gtkhtml2-3.8.0-3 is part of the regular (not supplementary) 10.0 distribution. Try backing out the later version you installed (as root "rpm -e gtkhtml2" then "ldconfig" and "SuSEconfig") and installing the regular version using YaST's 'Software Management' module. Then try updating Evolution again. Carl

hmm ... I think that would = my first installation attempt, would it not? I first attempted to update with the gtkhtml2 that was originally installed. It was only when I got the dependency error listed that I updated to the newest available to me module. Regarding "addendum 2": I will try another mirror, probably not until tonight, but since the error suggests that I have a too old version of this module, I would suspect that if the ftp.suse.com directory is linking to a later release, that then the module date would be later than any designed for 10.0 as opposed to 10.1? Anyway, I will give it a try. Thnx for the help ... P
Addendum 2: It appears the supplementary GNOME directory on ftp.suse.com has today's date (May 1) and is picking up (linking to) a later release than it was previously. Maybe factory?... beta?... 10.1RC3? I have no idea which of these it is, but the packages don't even have specific release numbers... just the package names. I'd suggest trying another mirror... possibly "mirror.mcs.anl.gov" to see if you can't pick up the package(s) that you need for 10.0. regards, Carl

That's unofficial actually - hence it's in supplementary, not available from YOU.

This looks like it's Novell bug #152399 [1] - it wass been marked as fixed for ages but was recently reopened because nothing had happened. Maybe add your comments to it. simply a poor use of the word: "official" -- but it does appear that the source was added to YOU. I was able to see the updated version of Evo and gtkhtml2 (presumably from this source) from within YOU ....

I haven't time presently to look further, but will check out the bug and comment if it seems appropriate. I guess this suggests that I will not be updating EVO until this bug clears, or will the bugzilla likely suggest a workaround? P

You'll want to wait till it's really fixed, given the nature of the issue. Worth noting that the FACTORY versions are all in sync as they should be. -- James Ogley james@usr-local-bin.org http://usr-local-bin.org Packages for SUSE: http://usr-local-bin.org/rpms Help end poverty: http://oxfam.org.uk/imin
