Hence my Q if there is a "official" preferred/recommended way of upgrading virtual machines?
"official", I don't know :-( I never tried to upgrade, simply because this may lat you with difficult changes. For example, it's nearly done to remove Hal and use I don't remember what other package. How can you manage this on upgrade? That said, there is an official command named "wagon" that will at some moment be certified to make an upgrade http://en.opensuse.org/Wagon jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.facebook.com/pages/I-support-the-Linux-Documentation-Project/3720... http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-fan-page-of-Claire-Dodin/106485119372062?v... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

In theory both "yast wagon" and "zypper dup" are going to be supported but as of RC2, wagon still had at least one bug. , buteI think wagon is more user friendly, but most devs use the zypper dup approach, so it is far more tested. The main upgrade page is: http://wiki.opensuse.org/SDB:System_upgrade, but the links to the wagon page are currently dead. (Soon to be fixed.)
