Hi all.. I need to setup on my wife's system (7.1 / KDE 2) a button so that all she has to do is click on it and it will mount the NFS system. Does anyone have an idea how I can do this? Why not stick it in /etc/fstab so that it happens at boot up.
Thanks!

Stick the entry in /etc/fstab and specifiy the 'noauto' option for it. KDE2, on first startup, will create an icon for it and will mount when you click on it. You can mount/unmount by right-clicking on the icon as well. You can also create this icon somehow by creating, say, a CDROM device icon and modifying it. - -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.5 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE7MOqz+FOexA3koIgRArnWAJ9Ydml8emQWDe56SBqHsTaZ6UEZnQCfURJd 3N29f42Rrm3ctrcBPUn8yk0= =sAYG -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Yup, we do :-) First of all, create the export entry on the server ( entry goes in /etc/exports, and would look like: /home/wife wifes_machine(rw,no_root_squash) ) Next, on wifes machine, create entry in /etc/fstab: nameofserver:/home/wife /nfs/wife nfs noauto, user 0 0 Rehash the NFS server ( rcnfs reload ) Then create the directories /nfs and /nfs/wife Last, on the KDE desktop, right-click, select "Create new" and "CDROM Device" Rename the device, change the icon appropriately, and move to the "Device" flip. Type "nameofserver:/home/wife" in the Device: field, "/nfs/wife" in the Mount-Point field and "nfs" in the File System Type. Change the Icon to a more appropriate one. Click ok. Click your desktop icon, and hopefully - voila :-) -tosi
