[opensuse] How to keep SuSE from tagging a new MAC as a different interface
Using VM's, the MAC address of the fake-nic gets changed often, and SuSE changes what should be eth0 to eth37, or whatever. This means I have to continuously delete the old nic and configure the new one. I'd Like SuSE to just eth0 for whatever it sees, and just use the existing configuration. Any ideas? If the MAC address of the NIC is constantly changing then there's really no way for SUSE to give it a persistent name. The way devices were named was changed back when the 2.6 kernel came out IIRC. As such there has to be a way for the OS to identify the device in the first place. There may be a way to do this however I can only point your nose in the right direction. The file in question is /etc/udev/rules.d/30-net-persistent- names.rules and more info at /usr/share/doc/packages/sysconfig/ README.Persistent_Interface_Names Maybe there is a way to keep your VM from randomizing the MAC address. That would be my first recommendation.
