[opensuse] Win98se in QEMU on openSUSE 11.0
Greetings. I've been trying to get Windows 98SE installed in a QEMU Virtual machine on openSUSE 11.0 and it works fine with the exception of the network. I see in the man page that the default nic is an ne2k, but when I try to install the driver supplied on the win98se install CD it doesn't work. I'm unable to get any sort of connectivity for the VM while running Win98. FreeBSD6.1 and WinXP both work perfectly in QEMU on this system (WinXP uses a RTL8029, but this driver doesn't seem to work in Win98.) Can anyone tell me what Windows driver to use and what settings to apply on either the guest side or the host side? I know that you might ask why put Win98 in a VM on Linux, and the only thing I can say is that there is a particular and perhaps peculiar need. I won't bore everyone with those details. aTdHvAaNnKcSe -- JAY VOLLMER -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks David. I've switched to VirtualBox and and it has solved that problem. The only problem left is the USB support. Is there a trick to getting a guest OS to see USB devices on the host? -- JAY VOLLMER -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Use VirtualBox from http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads the open source version doesn't have usb support Regards Dave P -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

/proc/bus/usb needs to be mounted as usbfs. To accomplish that issue 'mount /proc/bus/usb' To make it permanent, modify your /etc/fstab to include: /sys/bus/usb/drivers /proc/bus/usb usbfs devgid=<group id>,devmode=664 0 0 -- Rui Santos http://www.ruisantos.com/ Veni, vidi, Linux! -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yep, there's a trick: For USB, for openSuSE in fstab add: none /proc/bus/usb usbfs auto,busgid=XXX,busmode=0775,devgid=XXX,devmode=0664 0 0 where XXX is the vboxuser gid from /etc/group. -- David C. Make sure it is all on one line as well. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
