[opensuse] Bounced mail from posts to this list
Hi all, Overnight I received 4 bounced mail messages saying email was delayed (specifically, delivery status notification delay). I thought it was spam, but they actually contain messages of 4 posts I made to the list yesterday. Why would mail sent to this list bounce back to my email address? They are from postmaster@bcilabs.org, referencing address opensuse@bcilabs.org I searched the list archives and find no references to bcilabs. There's a new idiot every day, that's why you haven't found them. I also rejected 4 mails from that server (74.95.157.129 HELO:exch2003.bcilabs.net). Most probably they accepted mails for a recipient that doesn't exist any more and then bounce them back to the header sender address, typical Microsoft crap. Especially for that reason I configured a restriction class that rejects mails to my list address if they didn't origin from the listserver. Great against address harvester spammers and clueless postmasters. -- Sandy List replies only please! Great idea. Thanks for the tip, and the heads up. Jim F -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Because you are sending mail to that address, by the way of the mailinglist. This is perfectly normal. A delivery delay is (could be) interesting only for you and no one else. If the address starts to bounce the reciving MTA will tell the list servers MTA and after some bounces the list software will unsibscribe the address. So everything is normal... I had a delay notification after my message had appeared, for some strange reason. I send on gmail and receive on yahoo. Regards Dave P -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks everyone for confirming the list is working as it should. Seems kind of strange to see your post in an email bounce, but good to know why. Jim -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Are you sure of that? He is bouncing to me, not to the list server. He is still bouncing, so he was not unsusbscribed. If he bounced to the list server the server would notice and unsubscribe him. But he is not, he is bouncing the the 'from' address, not to the envelope 'from', in which case the server would notice. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Delayed DSN's are not really considered fatal bounces. And the address is working again. Nevertheless it was the second time this happend and the domain seems to belong to a domain grabber now. Ive unsubscribed it manually. Henne -- Henne Vogelsang, openSUSE. Thanks. I wrote a postfix rule to discard those emails, anyway. I'll remove the rule now. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Someone is subscribed to the list, but their mail is undeliverable. It could be temporary or permanent. You get that notice, because you are the from address. -- Use OpenOffice.org http://www.openoffice.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Me too. I assumed that it was being bounced from a specific person.
