[opensuse] system mail through smtp server howto?
I set postfix up to go through my ISP's smtp server which is not a problem. However when I want to send mail via the command line like: $ mail opensuse@opensuse.org it will bounce back because it tags the hostname onto domain. For instance it will bounce back and the mail will say from mikesd@ host.domain.com So how can I get the mail command to send to locally to system accounts and also externally. This is a problem because I have a php site that users forms and e-mails and they're all bouncing back. -- Michael S. The latter is normal when you don't specify a fully qualified sender address. It's actually postfix that does it - if you want something else (instead of "host.domain.com"), correct the mydomain parameter in main.cf. Why did your mail bounce - which reason were you given? /Per -- Per Jessen, Zürich (2.6°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yep, makes sense. You need to set 'myhostname' or 'mydomain' or 'myorigin' in /etc/postfix/main.cf or like Sandy also mentioned, use a fully qualified sender address. Please do not use "domain.com" in an example. This domain exists! Better to use "host.example" or "example.com". The latter is explicitely assigned for such usage. postconf -e "myorigin = domain.com" postfix reload Then test again. Or use a client that submits a fqdn sender address. -- Sandy List replies only please!
