tarball to RPM and install from YAST
Hello, Can someone point to a howto for creating an RPM file from a tarball and afterwards installing it from YAST. I want to install ProFTP on Suse 9.3 Many thanks in advance. ~James

Install checkinstall. Use it instead of make install. ========
Better yet, use KRPMbuilder and let it help you better understand building a proper rpm file. Checkinstall has it's uses, limited uses, but it doesn't go far in helping you understand rpm building. It's really not as difficult as many think and your system will thank you for building a good rpm file. :o) end of line Lee

Looked and tried both. Yes it can create an rpm. But, for instance, with krpmbuilder, you still have to provide all the dependencies manually. And these are the most essential parts of the entire rpm, not? Or am i missing something... Hans
