NumPy (Numeric Python) and wxPython in SuSE 7.3 python.rpm?
Dear SuSEanitas,
I'm thinking of sending a request to SuSE's feedback about
adding the often used Numeric extensions (NumPy), wxPython
(wxWindows Python bindings) and PyQT (Qt Python bindings)
to the python rpm (or separate optional rpm's) for SuSE 7.3
(I'm now using 6.3 and they are in there :-( ), to which
we plan to upgrade when 7.3 comes out (October?!).
I'd like to hear on any thoughts or experiences on this!

I'm going to have to jump in and support this request as well. I've had to install all of these things myself (I couldn't get RPM to package up NumPy, though) and they really are very popular modules, especially wxPython. I've been obsessed with PyQt the most lately, though. Qt Designer + pyuic is very powerful, indeed. It's much better than Glade. Oh, I'll also have to vote for the addition of the extremely useful XMLRPC module: http://www.pythonware.com/downloads/index.htm#xmlrpc I had to create my own RPM for that one as well. -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com

smbclient -M <username> (This works with Winpopup). BTW, does anyone know of a way the Windows user can reply to the Linux machine, i.e. a popup program for Linux? -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris "All I have seen teaches me to trust the Creator for all I have not seen." --Ralph Waldo Emerson
But does'nt the windows side have to have the winpopup running. Be nice to have some like on the novell networks that you can send a message to the clients an just have a message box to pop up. This is something that wud be great. jack

The NT side pups up automatically. The Win98/ME side does not. Tazio

Actually, yes the windows program has to be running, but can be minimized. If the options are set properly, it will pop up when an incoming message comes in (and minimize again upon deleting the message). My 'problem' is I can send to them from Linux, but they cannot reply. :( -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris "All I have seen teaches me to trust the Creator for all I have not seen." --Ralph Waldo Emerson

They actually can.
From the manuals:
" Samba's message command option sets the path to a program that will run on the server when a Windows popup message arrives at the server. The command will be executed using the guest account user. What to do with one of these is questionable since it's probably for the Samba administrator, and Samba doesn't know his or her name. If you know there's a human using the console, the Samba team once suggested the following: [global] message command = /bin/csh -c 'xedit %s; rm %s' & Note the use of variables here. The %s variable will become the file that the message is in. This file should be deleted when the command is finished with it; otherwise, there will be a buildup of pop-up files collecting on the Samba server. In addition, the command must fork its own process (note the & after the command); otherwise the client may suspend and wait for notification that the command was sent successfully before continuing." It's in the using samba book, which is in swat. Tazio
Eric, PyQt is available as part of the kde2.2.1 download for 7.2 and (if my memory isn't failing me) was / is part of 7.2. So I see no reason why it shouldn't be in 7.3 :). What I would like to see is a group of packages like they have for perl with lots of cool python extensions / modules in it. That would be cool. I think in 7.2 the pygtk bindings are also included (which you need to get wxpython working). Jethro On Wednesday 26 September 2001 22:10, Eric Maryniak wrote:
