Do anyone know how to hide all the boot info when booting. I would like to be able to show a screen with just: "booting...", or maybe /etc/issue, on the screen while the system boots, not all the info that goes into /var/log/boot.msg. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks in advance Bo Jacobsen bjc@image.dk

I think that there was a short thread about this on the kernel list sometime in the last month. I did not read it very closely, but, if I recall correctly, there was no very easy way to do it - at least not at kernel level. I suppose that you could start an experiment by commenting out the echo statements in the /sbin/init.d/boot script, but there is obviously more to it than that. Sorry, I missed the origninal post, but it's not as gloomy as Geoff says, either. Check out the Linux Progress Patch: http://freshmeat.net/projects/lpp/ I've used this when it was in significantly earlier stages, and it was pretty slick even then. You don't even lose your INIT messages, they just appear on tty2 instead of tty1, where your favorite, pretty, full-screen logo is displayed with a simple progress % bar. :) -- -=|JP|=- Need a good geek? I can't get the modem on this machine to work correctly. It HAS worked with previous versions of SuSE (6.4 namely), so I know it can. I downloaded the appropriate .rpm from heby.de and on install it gave back an error, so I unpacked the 6.00b7 archive and ran ./build_module. This ran through with all positive messages, the two modules were installed (lt_serial.o and lt_modem.o) and they load. wvdial runs, reports it's waiting for a dialtone, then times out and trys again. minicom finds the modem, and ATwhatever commands get back an "OK", but there is no sound, and the modem doesn't appear to get a dialtone. The same machine under Windows 98 dials and connects now (dual boot), so presumably there's nothing wrong with the modem. alsa is in and plays sounds. Thanks in advance for any help. regards, Bret
