[opensuse] Firefox bookmarks transferring question
Is there an easy/simple method of transferring a single bookmarks folder from one PC to another? I have a large bookmark system on my main PC that has over 45 main folders with many sub-folders in most of them. If I want to copy only one or two sub-folders to another system I have not been able to find a way to do that in the drop-down menus. I don't want to backup the entire *.json file and import it as that would overwrite an existing bookmark list. For instance, I have the following bookmarks: Linux Fedora openSuSE BSD Personal hobbies ham_Radio … If I only want to copy the openSuSE sub-folder from machine "A" to machine "C", how is that done. I don't have enough knowledge of html formats to edit them nor of json files. Of course I could just copy the URL for each entry, open that page on the receiving machine, and then bookmark it but there may be up to 100 entries in a sub-folder and each sub-folder may have many sub-sub-folders and so on. Is there an easy export/import method of doing this? Thanks, Tom -- "Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty." Export your bookmarks as HTML and import them into the other browser. Open the bookmarks manager and delete the cruft you don't want. You won't overwrite anything doing the HTML method. -- Chris -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yes-No-Maybe If you use a syntax aware editor with folding capability and know a little about how HTML is structured ( but not enough to compose it) then yes, such an editor will let you fold up the bits you don't want and delete them. There is also a tool written in Python called "bookmark_merger" that might be of use. While it won't do a single folder, it is possible to sync all your bookmarks between multiple Firefox and Seamonkey browsers using the sync function on the browsers. The bookmarks are shared via Mozilla servers. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
Hi Thomas,
Yes there is an easy way to transfer the bookmarks, but first off,
please correct the address of opensuse in your email address book i.e.
make it OpenSuSe

The easiest I have found is via a Firefox add-on called X-Marks located at http://www.xmarks.com You would need to create a free account on Xmarks, install the add-on into Firefox from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/xmarks-sync/?src=ss, visit the settings once installed by right clicking on the blue X on Firefox footer bar, and then let it synchronise. This add-on allows you to have the same bookmarks across multiple machines that have Xmarks installed, although some care needs to be taken as to which is the master set i.e. the local bookmarks or the ones on the Xmarks server. Hope it helps you as it has me with 1000's of bookmarks. Regards Hylton -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

i.e. don't use quotation marks but the diagonal brackets found above the space bar and right Alt key, on my system anyway. :)
its a small thing, but if the OP goes to the trouble of correcting
their address book, it might as well be correct.... there is no
(longer) any product named SuSE, nor openSuSE, nor OpenSuSe..
there is an openSUSE, so if it is a big enough thing to do the
correcting, go ahead make it correct:
openSUSE
The rest of my answer is posted at the bottom.
hmmmm...no idea how to help with the bigger thing...the actual questioned thing.. dd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
