Has anyone had any issues running Oracle 9i Release 2 on SuSE 8.1?
I've just installed it on SuSE 8.0 Professional. No big issues, but a couple of minor ones. 1. Watch the prerequisites - you need to increase SHMEMMAX as described in the Oracle documentation, otherwise creation of an initial database fails. (The SuSE supplied orarun.rpm sets this for you, so once everything is up and running, you don't need to write a startup script yourself). 2. Oracle's supplied dbstart script complains with "Can't find init file for Database xxx." if the initxxx.ora file doesn't exist. As Oracle's database creation assistant creates a default database with a spfile and no init.ora, this is unhelpful, to say the least :-) I couldn't be bothered fixing the script, I just created an empty initxxx.ora file (which is ignored) and the problem went away. Nothing else that I can recall. Most of the process consisted of crossing out sections of my notes where I had written up problems I'd had installing Oracle 8i, which no longer applied :-) Paul.

Wrong list: there's suse-oracle@suse.com for Oracle stuff, and see http://www.suse.com/oracle/, use the 8.0 column (8.1 still missing - but we tested it, the pages are only missing because after finding that it's the same instructions as for 8.0 it didn't have a high priority to update the pages... but we'll do it soon, promise) Michael
