emu10k1 fails to load after kernel rebuild
Hi; I've been running SuSE 8.0 for some time now with no problems with my sound blaster PCI 512. I did a rebuild of the default kernel (with a few options changed) and now during startup the emu10k1 fails to load. I selected the option in the kernel to load the driver but that failed to work. I downloaded the latest emu10ki files from source force and followed the instructions in there (including turning the option off in the kernel) and that failed. Please help. Thanks. Also, From what I've read it seems that there are a few problems associated with sound blaster and linux. Darren, To the best of my knowledge, the SB PCI512 is a very good card with Linux. It is one of the few hardware type midi cards available now and mine has given me excellent service. The SB !Live cards seem to be doing very nicely also in the other sytems I have built. Make sure that you do 'make install' of the emu101k files *after* you've installed the kernel. And then check that the emu101k modules got installed into the right place. jalal Darren Harmon wrote:

In my experience (w/ suse 7.2, soundblaster live value) you need to recompile alsa (0.5) after rebuilding your kernel. Then your sound will work again. The instructions w/ the alsa package are to be pretty easy to follow, but be sure to read about the configure options to get the settings you want. I haven't tried alsa 0.9 yet but 0.5 has served me well. good luck. -- dh
