SuSE 9.2, anyone have 2 nic cards on 1 pc working?
I have a dell notebook with 2 nic cards. One is a standard card, attached by rj45 cable and the other one is a wireless card. I have both cards set up for dbcp. Each card works just fine by it's self. But if I configure both to run then I don't get any internet connection, i.e unknow host on pings. I get an ip address for each nic from the dhcp server. I have put the "DHCLIENT_PRIMARY_DEVICE =yes' in the ifcfg of each adapter per suse's instructions from the support database. The route command looks strange. Why two gateways(UG)?, and the route command take several minutes to run. Turn off one of the nic and everything runs well. I guess I could just configure the wireless each time I need it, but KWiFiManger doesn't seem to save it's setting so I have to go to Yast each time. You can only have one default gateway. Is there any reason why you need to have both NICs on at the same time? If not, you can turn on one, while using the other. I wrote a couple of scripts, to switch between ethernet and wireless, which shut down one NIC and then start the other. Another method, would be to use profiles. You could create two profiles. one using ethernet and the other, wifi. You can then switch between the profiles as desired. You can also select the desired profile at bootup, if you add them to the boot menu.

in the config card for your wired card change this STARTMODE='auto' to manual and try again

What model of Dell do you have? I am running an Inspiron 1150 with both nics set up and I let Knemo do the deed. Turns it into a no brainer. Whichever is connected will fire up and be used. Of course the wired one takes precedence. If no wire then the wireless takes over. Nice, with little monitors in the bottom button bar to show a connection. RA -- Old age ain't for Sissies!
